Phoenix from the ashes

After several months of recovery after a lab fire in April 2005, our new Rb-BEC apparatus has been inaugurated (the new cell and trap coils are pictured on the left), and on February 3rd, 2006, at 3 a.m. we observed a Bose-Einstein condensate of 87-Rb atoms in the TOP trap. Two months later we reached condensation in our new dipole trap. On March 5th, 2007, we crossed the threshold of 100.000 atoms in a pure condensate.
